Abstract. The paper examines how interactive multimedia tasks can support primary school pupils’ positive motivation to learn. It distinguishes short-term excitement caused by an attractive task format from a more sustained willingness to understand the learning material. The paper explains how images, sound, text and pupils’ active participation can support learning interest when a task has a clear purpose, an achievable challenge, meaningful choices and useful feedback. It offers examples for different primary school subjects and identifies observable signs of motivation that go beyond pupils’ immediate emotional response to a screen.
